Balloon Treatment
Balloon
-Treatment
(Black and White)
We open on a girl sitting on a park bench looking sad. We
pan over to see a playground with children playing. We then see a close up of
the girls face.
We see a balloon floating near the ground coming towards the
girl. It stops in front of her and she gets up with excitement in her eyes and
grabs it.
(Color)
The girl runs to the playground with the balloon in hand.
They slide, swing, and run around together.
Cut to different shots of the girl and the balloon doing these
activities.
The viewer gets a sense that these two (girl and balloon)
are best friends and are inseparable. We then understand that she was sad
because she didn’t have anyone to play with and was feeling left out.
It starts to get dark out and we see the girl and the
balloon sitting on the ground together. The girl gives the balloon a hug,
squeezing just a little too tight, and the balloon pops.
(Black and White)
The girl is heartbroken and starts to cry. We see a wide shot of her sitting on the
ground crying and it fades to black.

Documentary Subjects
1. Char Swoveland - I think Char would make an interesting subject because she is co-owner of Junk Evolution, which happens to be one of my favorite stores. I would love to see how she goes about finding new items for the store, how she fixes them up, and how she is running a very sustainable business.
2. Krista Bailey- I worked with Krista briefly over the summer as an intern for the Center for a Sustainable future here at IUSB. I got to see how much she does not just for IUSB but the community as the whole. I love that she actually practices what she preaches and would love to see a documentary on what all she does at school, for the community, and at her own home that makes her a "titan for sustainability".
3. Andrew Elegante- I am currently working with Drew to create a Zero Waste venue at the State Theatre in downtown South Bend. I love that he is taking an old piece of history and bringing it back to the 21st century. The State has been hosting a lot of shows and events recently so we are coming up with a plan on how to make these events Zero Waste. I think it would be interesting to see the process of turning an old venue into something Zero Waste and also what all he is doing not only at the State but in the community as well.

SJRMC Production Photo
In this photo you can see different cameras getting ready for the next scene. One is setting up the frame, and Katie and I are practicing our dolly moves with the wheelchair. In the background the talent is meeting and rehearsing for the scene.

Happy
I'll be honest, I forgot about this assignment until today so my pictures were rushed and not a lot of thought put into them. Because of this- I changed up the assignment a bit (I hope you don't mind). Since I couldn't spend a lot of time creating an emotion...I took pictures of what made me feel a certain emotion. That emotion being happy, since my daughter was my only model and she, of course, makes me happy. So here are 10 (rough) pictures of what made me happy today.
Lunch dates make me happy
Strawberry milkshakes make me happy.
Trampolines with my baby make me happy.
Swingsets make me happy.
Smiles make happy.
Hammocks make me happy.
Late night painting makes me happy.
Nice days make me happy.
My goofy child makes me happy.
A sleeping child makes me happy.

Idea Six
Yep, another idea brought on from watching my daughter. Did you take me seriously when I said that was about my only motivation for making video?
When she thinks I'm not paying attention to her and she's in her room playing by herself I hear her singing her abc's (perfectly) along with many other songs. When I ask her to sing them to me or anyone else she makes mistakes and combines songs and acts like she doesn't know them at all...ornery turd. So I would love to set a camera up in her room and tape her when she's alone and see how much she really knows and how different she is around myself and others.

Idea Five
(Be prepared-another idea brought on from my daughter) While cooking with my daughter we both had our aprons on, covered in flour, and dancing to loud music. I was wishing I had it on video so I could always remember it, and thought it would be a cute idea for any mother and daughter. I was thinking next time we bake together I'll set up a camera beforehand and be able to capture all of our moments together before she gets too old to help me bake.
Idea Four
A friend of mine was complaining to me about how hard it was to be a stay at home mom and how tired she was of watching the same movie over and over with her kid. I couldn't help but think what a rude awakening she would have if she were to "walk a mile in my shoes" (single mom, going to school full time, working, living on my own, and also the one to do all the chores she was complaining about). Which lead me to the idea of filming my feet for an entire day to really show how busy I am, along with other hard working single moms.
Idea Three
I feel I need to state that I was reading an odd book right before bed which led to this strange dream...
A man had a vision that an angel appeared to him naked and they made love to each other. The whole time he felt he was being watched. When he finally took a moment to look around he noticed he was surrounded by wolves foaming at the mouth. He thought he was hallucinating so he finished his task with the angel and as soon as he had finished the angel disappeared and the wolves attacked him.
Idea Two
Again while watching my daughter play I noticed how she is already taking on such teenage/adult mannerisms and it made me laugh. I would love to make a video of her playing up these roles with scenes like
-Sitting on the bed talking to her friends
-Laying on the bed with legs crossed in the air playing on an ipad
-Trying on bra's
-Extremely excited over going to concerts (even if it is only the wiggles)
-Her obnoxious staring at boys
Idea One
I was watching my daughter at preschool play with her friends and noticed how obsessed she is with boys already. She seemed to favor one boy in particular and they spent most of their outside time holding hands and running around the playground pretending to be dinosaurs. It made me think about how young love is so happy and untainted. I thought it would be cute to make a video of it but also play up the idea of how adults need to be more like kids sometimes and just let loose.
-Two young children, a boy and a girl, are holding hands at a playground. They go down the slide together and ride the carousal while leaning against each others back with their arms intertwined. Next scene they are having a romantic dinner of macaroni and cheese in a backyard under twinkle lights. Then they are riding a horse together on the beach. Last scene they would be walking around the zoo holding hands and each have a colorful balloon. All while a happy peppy song was playing

I’m Maggie.
I don’t
have a favorite movie or TV show honestly. I don’t have the luxury of watching
much anymore with a wild two year old running around. I would really just have
to say anything that isn’t Caillou or on the Sprout Channel. Recently I’ve been
very into oldies music (ranging from 50’s-70’s). I’m not a huge fan of the new
pop/rap/auto-tune music that is currently popular.
I feel
the only passion I have right now to create media would be to film my daughter.
I don’t have any urge to create some deep emotional movie and have the whole
world see it like many of my friends do. I am, of course, obsessed with my
daughter though and would love to have some more exciting home videos of her
than just my random iphone videos.
I’m
not entirely sure where my life is headed after I graduate; I’m interested in
so many things that I’m actually getting four degrees. I think it’s very
important to know many skills and be a jack-of-all-trades, but I don’t see
myself going into a career focused on producing (video) media.
